There is some classical music accompanying the advert for the BBC's upcoming drama of Elizabeth Gaskell's 'North & South'. Does anyone know the title and composer?
well done slowdown I was delighted to see your question, cos I'd watched the trailer last night and wondered if it was Dances With Wolves. I was about to ask on AB, but you saved me the trouble.
The piece of music was composed by Martin Phipps, commissioned especially for the BBC for the North & South Drama Series.
If you wish to purchase this piece of music, then you need to contact the BBC Drama department and make your request known, then they may release it on CD.
PS No it is not Dances with Wolves/ Ride to Fort Hays by John Barry!
yes I wondered about the muzak, which is striking. The last North and South was around twenty years ago and had jean luc picard as the culture seeking factory owner, and Rosalie Crutchley (an excellent madame defarge from ten years before) as his battle-axe mother
Slowdown!!! This information is from the BBC, so if it's not the music in the advert maybe we are getting our wires crossed. They have not used any other music to promote this series.
Sorry, sohuld havre included a winky or blinky or whatever the damn emoticon's called ;-). But I do suspect we're talking at cross purposes, because I saw the advert a few times and have now got the Dances with Wolves piece, and I'd swear the two are one and the same. PLUS the original clue that it was from Dances with Wolves came from the BBC Drama forums...
It's unlikely the two pieces would be that similar so we MUST be talking about different ads :-?
And we're both right! According to the BBC Drama Messageboards, "the music used in the TV trails was from Dances with Wolves. But the music featured in the actual programme itself was specially composed for the series by composer Martin Phipps." QED.
