In this advert a young couple have an early morning argument, they then spend most of the day sending insulting picture-text to each other.

I can understand what they all mean except for the picture of a spanner lying on the floor.

What is the insult regarding this? I have heard the one about 'your face is like a bag of spanners', but I am sure this is not it.

Maybe he is a useless tool? (I've not seen the advert)

In Yorkshire we sometimes say someone is a "spanner" as another word for an idiot.
