My friend has a 17 year old indoor cat, who goes outside when it suits her. When she goes to the toilet now, she does not always leave the faeces in the litter tray, it is sometimes found in various places around the house as after going, she runs round the house like a mad hatter. Why is she doing this? And what can be done to stop her?
The problem will be 99% to do with the litter tray. Can your friend say hand on heart that it is as clean as it could be? Try looking at 'inappropriate elimination in "felipedia".
Is she long or short haired ? It could be as Redhelen says that 'knobbles' of poo are getting caught up in the hair around her anus and simply drops off once she has left the little tray - although this is mainly if a cat is long haired, if she is long haired this is something you are just going to have to live with, love animals love ALL things about them, bless them. :) My cat used to run round the house before going to for a number two !!
Here is a link to the site mentioned in my previous post. I found it so helpful and solved the problem with my 19 yr old cat who started having litter problems. We now have two litter trays and she uses them both and nowhere else.
As you can see from the above answers it can be due to a variety of reasons. Cats go senile and get confused too - so if it is a new problem then this may be a factor.
FAB is an excellent website for all things cat related - have a look at this information and see if it helps. http://www.fabcats.or...ur/spraying/index.php I think that once you work out why she is doing this it will, hopefully, easy to find a remedy.
