Can anybody help here. I bought a new car in December 2011 and every single time I put the dog into it he growls and doesn't want to go into it. I have to lift him all the time - it sort of gives me (I'm superstitious) is there something sinister about the car. What can I do to make him jump in as most of the times I can't lift him. Thanks for any replies. PS I had no problems with my other cars something like 4 in his lifetime.
Just an idea but how about putting his basket blanket in the car first, (familar surroundings help a lot, also maybe a couple of those hanging smellie things just to change the scent of the car.
thanks kjn - there is a smellie thing there already in the car perhaps I need to remove it as I never had one in the other cars - good idea - will go and take it out now.
Leave it open on a windy day to get the new smell out of it. We won eventually with one dog by throwing his favourite treat in and he would follow. He would be sick in it for months but eventually got over it. Good luck.
never had this myself - mine always want to jump in the car even when i don't want them to! What about letting him on the backseat instead of the boot, or putting some biscuits in there?
My OH had a new car in December, and as we waiting for a tailgate guard to be fitted the dogs hadnt been in. I took one of them to a show a few weeks ago, for the first time, and he was really 'off' all day, I do wonder if he felt sick to be honest.
thanks bedknobs - it is the backseat I am talking about. I have removed the smelly thing but tomorrow I will open the window to get rid of the smell of the smelly thing!!!! - hopefully that is the answer - thanks everybody for your answers.
Could he be getting static shocks? My old car (Jimney) was a total b for static electricity, me and the dogs continually got shocks, sometimes quite big ones. The new car (Rav4) doesn't do it.
