I would love to know more about Britain's third most popular pet (after cats and dogs) but not sure where to go. Where can I learn more about guinea pigs, either online or in book form?

I would be interested to hear if any of you ABers have got them as pets and how many 'piggies' you have had in the past?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi, Try YouTube - there are loads of helpful videos there. We have bought an "Egglu" from Omlet for our two pigs - it's expensive, but really easy to clean out and the pigs love it (although we still being them indoors in the winter), also has a good resale value on e-bay! We have had pairs of guinea pigs for many years (buying a new pair each time the preceding ones pass away).
DT, that's sick :-(
I know.....just the cynical mood! I apologise.....
we started with two, one died, the remaining one fretted, so we got another one, for company!....and so it went on!..........don't get even think about getting them, they can't live out in Winter, we bought a Summerhouse f0r them, and heating!......Oh!.....just not worth the hassle!..........
I bought one from a pet shop, when I got up in the morning there were three - she'd had babies.
my youngest sister was a mass murder - lesson 1 - you must keep them out of any draughts and, ideally, damp - and I am being serious.
My children had guinea pigs and let them out into the garden on occasion. They made the most of their freedom by ring barking a recently planted hedge so another one had to be set and the pigs kept in their run.
yep DT, they are not worth the hassle!........
Mm grilled cuy delicious
My friend has 15 of them. She has a room in her house which is all theirs, with runs and all sorts, and she just got her bathroom redone with 2 sinks to make it easier for bathing them! Actually, she used to have a website about them - I'll need to see if it's still running.
