Average Lifespan of a cat

What is the average lifespan of a "well pampered" but in no way overweight cat...

Just curious.

I've had four cats and two lived happily to 16 and 17 respectively. The current moggie has just turned 16 but shows no sign of slowing down and still climbs up trees and hunts, so I think he'll probably be good for a few years yet. So I think a lot is down to the individual cat - a bit like with humans.
(The other one got run over at eight months.)

I've had cats die as early as 9 and others not until in their 20s. Cats are living longer as people are more aware of health issues and proper care so 16, as micmak says, is a good average.

I always thought the lifespan was nine for cats.

I think average life span is about 14. Our old stray was in his 20's.

It depends on many factors as you can see in this article. Indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats as they don't face the dangers of traffic, other cats, poisons etc, and of course it also depends on how well you feed and look after your cat. Have a read, it's interesting.
