I have read Stars story and it does indeed pull at my heart strings. He does look a lovely dog, how can people pass him by? However, I do still have a German Shepherd at home, she is two in July, and also a cat. And my grand children are all under 12 (well the ones I look after are), so my home would not be suitable for Star. And of course it is far too soon to think about another dog. But thank you for thinking of me, I hope Star soon finds a loving home.
When we first got Johnny(from a greyhound re-homing centre), they said that he wouldn't get on with cats or young children. Well, I must confess that we weren't completely 'honest' coz we had cats and young children. When we got Johnny home, there was never any bother with him and the cats or the children, they all got on just fine together. I would say that, just maybe, with the right person Star just might settle with another dog. But at the end of the day it would be down to the re-homing centre whether to take the chance. It would be a shame to get Star home and then have to take him back if things didn't turn out OK. I guess we were just very lucky with Johnny.
I think with greyhounds they err on the side of caution - I rehomed several to homes with cats when I was a homefinder for the RGT but the introduction does need to be done carefully and you can never be 100% sure that one day the urge to chase won't kick in, so people have to be aware of that. I had a cat killed by two greyhounds that singly would not have looked twice at him, but together they just couldn't help the natural instinct to chase.
