Why do pet owners use dog cages?
I've lived with dogs for 40+ years (all rescued dogs over 12 months when I got them) and have never used a cage. Am I missing something?

I have a dog guard in the car, and have had for years,it keeps both them and me safe, but have never used a dog cage. However a friend gave me a very large dog cage, and I use it all the time, for making "leaf mould". Its great, I fill it full of leaves, and can turn it regularly, and it has a door to get my mould out when its done!!!!!! But as for putting a dog in...

Its NEVER quiet. Its also strewn with rubbish including fishing tackle and the occasional hook. Before I lost my DH we were going to move to Norfolk because there are REAL beaches there and the dogs would have loved them.
Don't worry, my dogs have a lovely life with plenty of exercise and stimulation.

...actually, thinking about it none of the dogs we have ever had (all hpr's) have been that crazy about the beach once the novelty has worn off. We have taken all of them, bar these on seaside type holidays but there is nothing to hunt and the water tastes disgusting. One and all they enjoy(ed) it more tracking deer and chasing bunnies.
We use crates, which are the right name for cages. It, for us makes it easier to contain the dogs especially at night as one is an awful chewer-we would have no furniture left! Plus when travelling or due to health issues they need to be contained crating them is much easier then not. Plus when camping the dog knows where it is and is meant to be and not overly worry about being away from home and its comfort zone. My husbands parents have sued them for absoloutley years with ALL there dogs-rescue and non rescue. We have started it with our Spaniel and shes a rescue but having the crate gives her the space she knows is her and is safe, away from any noises or things she does not like. They also get used for time out when the younger lab is jumping on Lucky. So yeah crates work-for us at least.
The sister has a cage in her living room for her lhasa apso, and it goes in there when they have visitors. The dog has an unfortunate habit of biting people he doesn't know well, he was a re-home and they just cannot stop him doing it. He did attempt a go at my westie once, which was a huge mistake, when I go round with my dog the lhasa hides in the cage without being put there.
Our dogs love the beach we are down there very often. This vid was taken a few weeks ago. Its a shame that the beach was looking messy with loads of sea weed washed up after a storm, the hounds didn't seem to mind it.
