Hi,

Has anyone had good results using a human ointment for this instead of Optimune, please? If so, what did you buy?

Thanks from me and Lottie (13 yr old Norfolk Terrier)

I wouldn't be messing around with suggestions from us posters...why don't you talk to the vet?
Someone told me they used something from the chemist, I am guessing Viscotears, but I wouldnt, although I know how expensive Optimune is from experience.
I too know of people who have used Viscotears instead... try Googling 'alternative for Optimune'.

I don't think there is a cheaper alternative - if there was my vet would have prescribed it - and Viscotears doesn't do the same job. I have two dogs on Optimune. I wouldn't use anything the vet didn't recommend.
There are risks in using some human medication on our pets - don't do it.
Yep the vet only gets two holidays a year ;0)

Optimmune cleared my dog's eye problem a long time ago. It has flared up recently, I think, because we have been using a dehumidifier in the house (due to recent flooding) and I suspect it has changed the balance in the atmosphere sufficiently to prompt her eyes to be unusually dry. If it is a temporary setback, as I believe, I want to see if something other than Optimmune will work. I have decided to try Lumecare Dry Eye ointment and sterile wipes. These should arrive tomorrow, or Monday, and I'll see how they help.

Thanks to posters' for their interest and contributions.
