Dog Pancreatitis

My GSD recently was at the vets for nearly 48 hours, on a drip etc. etc. She was diagnosed with Canine Pancreatitis and the bill came to nearly £500. Just a month or so later she is demonstrating the same kind of symptoms (gooey, slimey vomit, watery diarrhoea) though this time (currently at least) without the bright red blood in it. As (perhaps) we might have caught it early does anyone have any ideas which might help this old girl (nearly 9 years) to recover please?

I know nothing about dog pancreatitis, but it can be diagnosed with blood tests as in humans.

From what you have described, the treatment that she received was the appropriate treatment.

I would suggest that your take her back to the vets.

Sounds like cat flu

That's what I was thinking, but perhaps we'll wait and see what she'sm like in the morning.

Where does cat-flu come from? She's not eating, and on the vet's advice have changed her food to a 'prescription' dry all-in-one. She currently has Purina Beta Sensitive.

My GSD, many years ago, had cat flu, exactly the same symptoms and wouldn't eat, just a trail of slime. Our lovely vet diagnosed it, put him on a drip. Next day he showed interest in food, everybody's sausages went in his dish. I hope she gets better Mr-H, Hi Sqaddy

My 10 year old GSD, Max, had a growth on his pancreas which required quite major surgery costing a total of £800. He recovered from the op alright but unfortunately a few months later he lost the use of his back legs and had to go to sleep.

It's always upsetting to lose a friend Mr H, especially as he'd made such a good recovery from his op. I hope you have Sophie for many more happy years.

We've been to the vets, and she has been prescribed Pro-Kolin (injected into mouth), Metronidazole and Clavaseptin Pal (both tablets). Wants to see her again on Friday. Start food again this evening, after a 36 hour gap! Fingers crossed.

She also had an injection this morning - kerching!!
