Blood In Jrt Vomit
11 Answers
My 3 year old Jack russell has seemed to be fine in herself, took her out for a walk an hour ago. She usually stays in my view but I had to call her several times as I could not see her. Immediately after being indoors she was vomiting slimy, bright red blood. Cleared that up, five minutes later the same again, only this time over the bedroom carpet!
I don't want to panic and rush her straight to doggy A&E, I've done that in the past and have been charged the earth for nothing at all. Has she eaten something whilst out walking? Is it something more sinister? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.

Is she drinking excessively?
Does she appear to be gasping as she vomits or is it straight vomit?
Has she eaten since being sick?
Could be a stick or bone nicked her stomach or just something she picked up like a slug etc does not agree with her - monitor for an hour if it happens again take her to doggy A&E

FGT - no, she's not drinking excessively. I didn't even hear her throwing up right next to my feet! She hasn't eaten since being sick, but it's not unusual for her to snub her food. I've taken away her bones and I'm going to take up her food for a few hours and leave her with just water. Will take your advice and monitor her for a while.
She has since done a lenghty bum shuffle across the living room carpet. I will check out if her symptoms could be down to worms

Thankyou for your replies. She seemed absolutely fine in herself so I fed her bland food (although she loves rice) and wormed her immediately after her bum shuffle. No problem since, it must have been something she ate. I give her bones, but only ones from the pet shops or supermarket. There seemed to be a jagged edge on one of them so they have all been taken up and substituted for a new toy.
We've still been checking her often incase of any underlying causes. I've panicked in the past with pets only to find no problems, so I didn't want to jump the gun.
