Update Of Ben......has Anyone Got Or Owned A Rough Collie.?? My Dear Old Boy....
Just thought you may like to know the recent with Ben. We thought his eys where getting better but kidding ourselves I think. Last night his nose started to bleed..just the one side...the side of his sunken eye. It has been bleeding all night so took him to vet first thing this morning. When I say bleeding it isn ot like ours where they pour with blood it was a blood drip ...sort of mucous with bright red blood. He just keeps licking it away. Anyway vet has given him strong antibiotics and said leave him until tuesday night, if no better he was to go on on wednesday morning to be put out so they can explore further and x ray. I really thought it was the time this morning but vet wants to keep trying to see if it is an infection. At first he wanted to keep him in but I really didnt fancy that over the weekend. Thought you would like to know. Mnay thanks Brenda xx

We can't help our loved ones if they are in pain or discomfort but for our animals we do have the chance to relieve their suffering. I am sure you will have loads of wonderful memories and you will find that once you have made the decision you will not regret it. Leaky eyes here now!
Hi Lankeela, Sorry I didnt reply to your post the other day I also had leaky eyes and every time I tried to reply I couldnt see the screen.
Taking him back for check up tomorrow but noticed he is still having blood from his nose that side...thing is he licks it off and I do not always see it but when he is laying on the carpet and rubs his nose the blood is on there. He is so much better in himself and is now getitng used to the slabs by the door and going in and out ok now. So fingers corssed. xx

Well the vet is pleased with Ben after his tooth extraction last week. The blood coming from his nose he is "hoping" it is still to do with the tooth and is just settling down. But if it keeps on then have to take him back.. So for now hopefully everything is ok. I am so pleased and would like to say a big Thankyou to you all for your support this past week. I really do not know what I would have done without you all. For now I will spoil Ben and make every day count. I know he is old and has bad legs and eye but he looks so much better now. Brenda xx
Thinking of you. My old Rough Collie had epitaxis (nasal tumour), the vet treated him systematically and it upset us more than it did him. He was 14 when diagnosed, but also had other problems including liver disease. As long as he is eating and happy to see you, he isnt in any distress.
You will know when he is in pain and discomfort. x

mrs chappie, Many thanks for asking after Ben, well I am afraid his other eye is not looking too good and it seems to be closing more and more like the other one..He has started going off his food also....I put that down to the hot weather but will see how it goes. No more bleeding from his nose so that is good. Taking him to the vet tomorrow about his eye. x
I know it's painful, but more and more I am agreeing with what Zacs is saying now. Having been through what you are going through, with a sad old cat, many years ago, it may be Ben's time - poor old fellow, it's not fair to keep toting him to and from the vet, and I hope you've been able to have an honest discussion with the vet today about his prognosis. Going off his food might be his way of trying to tell you that he's had enough.....
Oh Brenda, poor old fella, he does sound like he's going through the wars, doesn't he.
What a horrible, horrible decision for you to have to make. I wish there was something I could say to help you through this. I know how hard it is to let go, but I know you'll want to do right by him.
I don't know if you do internet hugs (some folk absolutely hate them) - but just in case you do ..... a massive hug for you. ((((((HUG))))))

Oh Brenda, I wish I could find some words of comfort for you. xxx
Did you take Ben back to the vet today? I do hope you have the kind of vet I had when I used to rescue - he was fabulous, he really cared about the animals (I know what Zacs means with his comments above, unfortunately).
My old vet knew OH and I funded our rescues ourselves and he only charged us for medication, giving us his time FOC. He wasn't a PDSA vet either - he had a private practice. A lovely man. I don't expect there are many around like him. I could never thank him enough.
It would be great to hear that Ben has perked up a bit (I'm keeping everything crossed for him).
