Holidays
I haven't been on holidays from 2008 - mainly because I can't stand putting my dog into kennels.
I did try a private dog-sitter but was not pleased - that was to allow me to get to a wedding.
Anybody else feel guilty.
The last time I brought him - he braked his hind legs big time and it nearly killed me.

Maybe you should try just going for a long weekend first and see how you get on. You're not likely to enjoy a full week abroad if you're feeling guilty and worried.

Tilly why do you not like a pet-sitter.
YinYang - my dog is very much a house dog - pretty much with me 24 hours a day - sleeps in the same room etc.
Would have one friend who would have looked after him but she is fighting cancer and it wouldn't be fair.
I do know if he was left alone too long - he would bark with loneliness.

You've lost me a bit with the whole braking / stopping his legs thing...
You didn't mention going with friends up to now. You can either find a good kennel and struggle with your guilt, take the dog and risk annoying your friends or accept that a holiday isn't really practical for you at the moment.
