I have two grey sorta shaggy biggish mats in my dining room/cum kitchen - back is rubber - thank God cos I have washed them every two weeks. I know Mr Maxie is doing sneaky pi$$ on them as when I walk in my bare feet I feel wet. I have him from February and have never caught him in the act. He gets out plenty front and back of house to pee.

I know there is something I can buy to stop him from doing this cos it is cracking me up. Can anybody remember the name. I probably could find out from Pet World but the guys there are so easy going you could throttle them. Ta again.

Are you sure your dog is getting enough exercise and toilet training? To be doing so many poos in the house and weeing suggests that a bit more training is required, are you attending any training sessions with your new pet?

no it is only peeing - would you believe it seems to me he is attracted to these matters (whether it is rubbing backing) - oh he gets out plenty. Also after a pretty gruelling time with his pooing in the bedroom (back room) particularly - that has stopped. He gets a last pee at night and from about 11 pm until maybe 10pm - no pee. Deffo attracted to these mats. Will go over to Pet world - and try get this stuff to detract him.

May I add that when I have washed the mats and they are out to dry - he doesnt pee on the wooden floor

Keep him on a washable floor with newspaper spread over & something to coq his leg at. I use a stool size log (for log fire after). Keep his water bowl outside so he drinks & *** outside more.

He may be using your carpets coz theyre near furniture he coqs his leg at?

I'm guessing you need the stuff that removes the smell - that's why he keeps going there, ordinary washing won't remove the smell enough for a dog not to pick it up.
Why don't you go without the rugs for a month. Give them a chance to get clean and he might forget about them.

not training to pee indoors ummmm but log (on washable surface) for when he HAS to be indoors.

I'm assuming Jenny meant 11pm to 10am no peeing so if he's peeing while she's there then maybe he should be let out more.

yes I did mean 11pm to 10am. I am just after buying repellant from Pet World - the mats have once more been washed and hung up to dry which takes a while as they have rubber backing and they seem to take quite a while.

Ummmm - my dog is out backdoors a good bit of time but spends lots of time inside me - why have a dog - I enjoy his company - most of the time and when he comes in I usually leave my door open for him to have a choice to go outside again. He does his last pee at 11.00 - I do think somehow the rubber backing has something to do with it - but we'll see with the repellant.

I do have water bowl for him inside house and outside - maybe I will remove inside water bowl but somehow think this is unfair - it is nice to have a drink when you feel like it. The strange thing he doesn't seem to be a big water drinker as the water never goes down just I change it everyday.

Even when we come back from a big walk - a few sips does him whereas Harvey would have nearly drunk the whole dish.

Once an animal has scent-marked an area with his urine, he's likely to keep 'topping up' that marking. (Just watch how dogs repeatedly head to the same lamp posts and trees on their daily walks). So you need to completely zap the smell, so that even a doggy nose can't detect it.

Hey Jenny Joan, try using a pet calming plug-in diffuser to try and relax them - it could be caused by stress and may take the edge of it.
Check that it really is pee - dogs often use a comfy mat to groom and it could be just excessive slobber (?)

Take away the mats - often they can still smell where they have been, even after a good hot wash and repeat the action - don't put the carpets down for a couple of weeks and see if the issue repeats itself.

Really, really over praise when they go to the loo outside - treat ad make a BIG fuss. If they pee indoors - don't shout - completely ignore them whilst you are clearing it up to ensure they know that no attention will be gleaned from this action,

No, I have never shouted at him cos I know he would just be afraid. It is all part of owning an animal - as I said mats are out to dry - hope this good weather prevails - will use this repellant tonight or maybe even now when I go downstairs. I do think wherever he has been before (extremely badly neglected) he was left outside 24 hours a day so could pee any time he wanted to.

Just for the record - he was eating his groin and feet until some blood was oozing - I treated him for about 2 weeks with this zinc and castor oil and his coat is fantastic. But he was greasy looking on Sunday and I gave him a nice shower - he loathes water but I kept reassuring him with my voice and won him over. He is now a beautiful dog. If I may so hmmmm.
