Hi. My 16 yr old Border Collie has had problems with his feet for a long time but recently a very cracked pad developed into a painful open sore which is proving hard to heal. He has had antibiotics and is just about to start another course but today the vet has said it will mainly have to be just managed because it is difficult to give it chance to heal. Apart from covering it when he goes outside, which I already do (he wears a thick sock or a bandage), he suggested melolin dressings secured with micropore tape. Has anyone any suggestions of any creams, lotions etc which they have used to help healing. He finds it painful to put his foot down at the moment. Thanks!!

Sudocrem! This is a miracle cream in my opinion and completely safe for dogs. I've used it when my boy had a nasty rash from allergies and within a few days it had cleared up, I also used it when he was attacked and had two very deep puncture wounds from the other dogs teeth :-( I applied it generously and again, within a few days the wounds were clean, and healing nicely. Best of luck with your collie, beautiful dogs!

Thanks for your help! I will give it a go. The sore is in a difficult place just under his claw but I will try and put plenty on and hope it doesn't rub off too soon when I have to cover his foot. Thanks again.
Holland and Barratt Manuka Honey Skin Rescue Cream- totally amazing for people and animals x
We used an ointment called Liver Unction when ever any of our animals had sores. The dog will probably lick the ointment on his paw but this used to help with the healing . Don't know whether you can still buy the ointment . It used to be available from pet shops.

Thanks again for your recommendations. I have heard about Manuka honey but never tried it before. I will enquire about Liver Unction ointment. It sounds tasty so he probably will try and lick it off!
