Quite right too, dogs are carnivores by nature.
I wouldn't even think of feeding dogs a vegetarian diet.
I think that dogs are omnivores, not carnivores. Surely any dog owner knows that.
you'd have to be card carrying eejit to try and make a dog a vegetarian.
my 2 do eat certain veg, baked beans etc, but there's no way they'd exist on a full veggie diet.
Atheistm, sorry but I have to disagree with you. They are carnivores by nature.

Atheist, Danny, difficult to be sure who is right nowadays.

Dogs are omnivores - scavengers by nature.
I am not saying that dogs should only eat meat and I do think that they can eat plant based foods added to their diet.I do not think that a vegetarian diet would be healthy for a dog.
My personal opinion, is that although they are technically omnivores, that includes a lot of meat. "Omnivore" must vary, but dogs thrive on more meat than we do, less than cats do.
Quite right for a jail sentence, in my view, for a lack of welfare. I would say the same for a small child on a vegan diet who can't consent. You do what they need, not whatever you want.

Would any of you report anyone who you knew kept their dog on a vegetarian diet?
I doubt it, I would speak to them. But it would depend if their dog seemed happy and healthy.
My vegan daughter cooks meat for her dogs, she has 5o do it at the bottom of the garden because it smells so bad
I couldn't get Jill's usual tinned meat a few weeks ago, all they had was the vegetarian option, s*o I got that, thinking she wouldn't know the difference. Boy, was I wrong ! First of all it looked like mush and when I put it down for her, she looked at it, looked at me, looked at it again and walked off in disgust !! Luckily I had some chicken in the freezer and she had a meal of that instead. Sorry Jill, I won't make that mistake again ....
shirley: "she looked at it, looked at me, looked at it again and walked off in disgust !! " - get that from one of my JRs, we could cook steak and he'll sniff it and walk off, the other one will eat anything and ask questions later. We have to stop one of them eating all the food so the fussy one gets a look in. I sometimes wonder what would happen if we did nothing, would the fussy one get so hungry that he'd start eating??
I think so, ttt.... can you separate them with a door, to give him a chance? I had one exceptionally fussy grazer... but now there are 4 more, the competition means he eats all his straightaway.
yeah we do do that but to be fair the fussy one guards his bowl quite well even if he's not eating it!
So do some of mine :-). I would put it down, then remove it when the other has finished. Next time, he might decide he should eat...
Lol I don't think Jill would walk off if I put steak down for her !
naomi: "I wouldn't even think of feeding dogs a vegetarian diet. " - the operative word there is "think" I don;t think these veggie bigoted types actually think.
