Why are cats allowed to roam anywhere they like at any hour but you are not allowed to let dogs wander about. My jack russell slipped his lead the other day and chased a cat into the neighbours garden and the owner grumbled at ME for not having the dog under control whilst her cat goes everywhere!
Although cats & dogs are both common pets, they are treated differently under the law. In esssence cats are seen as 'wild animals', uncontrollable - dogs are assumed to be controllable. And should be properly trained or controlled, IMHO.
Restriction on wandering dogs is (supposedly) a safety issue. There are far too many cat owners (voters) to upset by the local councillors if they made regulations on cats. If you think that is not so, try keeping a rooster or free flying pigeons in a buildup area and you'll soon be in the poo with the council.
Hi i have 2 cats, we used to live near green where people let their dogs off the lead for play and my cats have both been chased by dogs with responsable owners, the owners would always apologise to me when it happend. I didnt have a problem with it, thats what dogs do, they see a cat they chase it. Its no different than my cats chasing birds or other small animals. I just think some people dont have a clue at all! Cheers Honey xXx
It's nothing at all to do with the numbers of cats & dogs. In fact the relative proportions of each have switched around over the past few years. 20 years ago, dogs far outnumbered cats as pets.
not entirely true spudqueen. Babies in cots and prams have been suffocated by cats laying across their faces. No doubt innocently looking for a warm spot to sleep.
