Hi all
my black pussycat has got a large area on her side where the fur has become thin and sparse and also very short, just towards her back right leg. She has no rash, no itching and is her usual happy self. She does not appear to be rubbing the area on her cat flap and there are no signs in the garden of anything she may have rubbed against. It is odd and I don't know what it is. I am not concerned, dshe eats cat food, biscuits, water, no milk. She also has chicken and fish treats. Might it be dietary or what?
Any advice please, guys?

If she has been spayed it may be a hormone deficiency.

Easily cured by daily dose of hormone replacement drug.

Check with your vet.

Hi les saisies
I shoulda mentioned she was spayed three years ago, is it possible that long after? Thank you for replying. The patch is getting bigger, I wondered if hormones are the key to it.
Did you notice if she's grooming this area more than usual?
Question Author
Yes, my dareling. She is, but no signs of rash etc.
Could be mites, could be skin allergies, could be hormones, could be stress, could be ringworm (noticed any on you?). Could be food allergies if you have recently switched food. Not likely that is was caused by the spay, though even spayed cats can get hormone imbalances.
Fur loss can sometimes becaused by the cat grooming itself too much - it simply licks the fur away! Not sure if this is the sole cause of your cat's hair loss though!

It could be the right diagnosis. We have two cats, surely any infestation would involve them both. I think it may be obsessive grooming. She doesn't bite the area and there are no spots or lumps or marks.
Thanks everyone and good evening to you all.
