How long before my wolf hybrid has puppies?
28 Answers
My German Shepher/Wolf Cross went into heat about a month ago. We have problems keeping a stray male dog out of our yard. She was in heat for about 2 weeks. Now, a month later she looks really fat and her tits are a little bigger than normal. Im really starting to think she might be pregnant. How long do you think I have before I will expect puppies? Any advice?

Not only have you acted completely irresponsibly by allowing your dog to be covered, but you have also allowed this in her first season. She is too young to have pups both physically and mentally and there is no telling what damage you have done to your 'beloved pet'. What did you mate her with by the way? A Pitball?
Hang on it looks like another dog got into her garden that can hardly been seen as her fault,
Did the two dogs tie?
You already seem to know that mating at this age is not right she won't be mature enough to cope so get to the vet asap they can abort the pups for you and give you any other advice you need

I agree with the above answers, get your dog to the vet ASAP and checked out and if she is pregant then I would get the vet to abort there and then AND ALSO SPAYED
You were totally irresponsable by allowing any animal near her do you not realise what you have done? Why if you knew you had problems with a stray WHY did you take the chance by letting her out.
I have been fighting with my breeder for irresponsible breeding but this just takes the p*ss, PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LET HER HAVE THE PUP AND THEN SELL THEM ON, if you knew what I am going through at the min with my GSD because of bad breeding then you would understand.
(Sorry but it made me mad)

There are many people out in this world that have had litters of puppies that are not planned. I honestly dont care to take the comments of how bad of a dog owner I am. I did not plan this litter, but I do plan to let her have her pups. She is a healthy dog, and it is not her pups fault she got pregnant! I will find homes for all her pups, and I ask that you do not comment on my desisions concerning letting my dog have her puppies. My question was "how long will she be pregnant, and is there any advice (refering to raising the pups)". To answer the question concerning the male. He is a stray that we constantly chase out of our yard. We cannot get close enough to him to catch him. I dont know who owns him. I believe he is possibly a large chocolate lab mix of some sort. The damage is done already, so now I plan to give my female the best care I can. I will also do my best to place each of her puppies in homes. I will be typing up an contract for each possible new owner of a puppy from her litter. I will be planning home checks, and more.
My comments were directed not at your care of the bitch, but the fact that you have a so called wolf hybrid. If this is indeed what it is (I have known many husky/malamute crosses that people claim are 'wolf crosses') then I would like to know why anyone would want to cross either the beautiful GSD breed or the fantastic real wolf. Wolves or their offspring have no place in domestic homes and should only be kept under licence by people who have the right environment such as zoos or private licensed collections. How can you guarantee that people who buy the puppies will treat them with the respect they deserve and not breed from them so perpetuating the problem.
I can only imagine the sort of people who would want such an animal and in the current scenario where dangerous dogs are in the news almost daily I feel it is totally irresponsible to allow these puppies to be born.
And I really don't give a sh*t for your feelings or whatever justification you feel you have for producing this litter.

I fully understand that the litter wasn't planned but..........the genentics especally in the GSD are really bad and the genentics in Labs are really bad, you are messing with fire you have two breeds here, three if you count the wolf cross, you have not even had any genetic tests done on your bitch, how do you know you are not going to be passing on bad genes, The GSD should not be bred until they are at least 21/2 year old, your dog is still maturing can I just ask why a contract? hopefully your will inform your protental buyers that they will not be PUREBREDS/PEDIGREES
I really don't think you have thought this throu.......but if you can sleep at night knowing that you are probarly going to produce dogs that will PROBARLY have health problems from a early age then go for it.

I want to do spay/neuter contracts. A contract to where the new owner understands that they are getting a mix of timber wolf/German Shepherd and some of mixed breed. They new owners have to contact me if they can no longer keep their dog at any point. This way I can either take back or help in placing that dog if need be in a new home appropriate for its breed. I want to make sure all that adopters have vet references before adopting one. I want most of all to try my best to put these puppies in FOREVER HOMES.
My Female came from a Pure White German Shepherd bitch, and a Grey Timber Wolf male. The father looked just like a pure wolf, but I was told that he was 98%. Snowy (my dog) is All white in color. She looks like a white Shepherd only she has a perfict straight back line. She has a slight wolf look to her face.
This link confirms that wolf crosses have to be licensed. Do you have a licence? And how can you be so sure the father is 98% wolf - the permutations required to work this out would take a mathematical genius.

FOREVER HOMES LOL..............My German Shepherd is not yet two, he has deterated rapidly over the last three months, I am now at the stage do I give him a hip replacement which would probarly not help or PTS, my point is what chance has these poor inocent little pups got with all this cross breding going on. Yes health issues occur when breeding but your breeding irresponsable without doing any health checks whatsoever.
Another thing your bitch has a very high chance of dying giving birth because her body is not yet ready for childbirth, mentally or physically.

In the state that I live in we are not required to have a license to own my dog. I live in the united states. Some states do not allow ownership of a wolf, some require licenses, and some dont require any thing at all. I live in the country, and my state doesnt not require a license. You can buy wolf-crosses in the news paper here.
Thank you for explaining that. Unfortunately we have many irresponsible people in the UK who would not bother to apply for a licence if they managed to acquire a wolf cross puppy. We also have many unscrupulous people who would sell someone a puppy claiming it to be a wolf cross
when in fact it is just a husky cross. There are also some 'new breeds' that claim to have wolf ancestry close up and they are also GSD crosses when you actually read the history.
Sorry if you feel we have been unsympathetic, but we have a big problem in the UK at the moment with the publicity from an attack by a Pit Bull Terrier which killed a child, and we are (the responsible ones anyway) a bit touchy about the subject of 'difficult' dogs (can't think of a better word!).
Although your bitch is very young to have a litter, I am sure she will be ok if you give her a good diet and follow the common sense rules of whelping a bitch. I will send you a link to a site that has a very good article.

Its a bit late for the first bit(!), but scroll down and there is a
good section on care of the bitch etc, plus a section on what to ask puppy buyers.
