cat pain killers withot prescripton?
Does anyone know if there are any kind of painkillers available which would be suitable for cats without prescription?
About 18 months ago my cat Elvis (now 4 yrs old) came home limping we took him to the vet who failed to notice that Elvis had a dislocated hip by the time it was diagnosed, more than a week later it was too late to fix it so we had 3 choices: lose the cat, lose the leg or keep him on cage rest and hope for the best, he did heal on his own and he's ok except for a bit of a limp and he's not as steady as he was, but every now and then he starts to go off his food and limp a bit worse as if he's in a bit of pain maybe from a fall or something he does get better again after about a week but i hate to see him suffer. is there anything i can do? this only happens once or twice a year he usually just sleeps it off and obviously i would take him to see a vet if i thought he wasn't getting better

I got some canine asprin some years ago, which have proved useful for very occasional use. http://www.bullwrinkle.com/ShoppingPages/dog-a spirin-vetrin-canine.htm - for dogs only....
To the best of my knowledge cats cannot take asprin as their system is alkaline. I have heard they can take diphenhrdramine (which is Benadryl), but to be honest if it only happens a couple of times a year and he sleeps it off I wouldnt bother. Alternatively you could some homoepathic remedies, or cod liver oil on a regular basis.

dont really think there is anything over the counter you can give a cat for pain. Most things are just too dangerous. You can try giving him some liquid form of condroitin/ glucosamine(SP?)
my vet recommended a pediatric dose for a cat i rescued with a broken pelvis. After it healed he still had a permanent wobbly rear gate, but I was worried he would later experience arthritis or other pain. I couldn't afford the prescription meds, so vet recommended the above. You can get them in capsule form to and you could sprinkle it on the food. It would be a long time treatment though, maybe life long. Try putting out a heating blanket on warm or a hot water bottle that he can sleep on as the heat may help alleviate his pain.

Have you tried morphine this will definitely give relief to your cat and it is considered to be a best medicine for cat.
