Pooing dog

This 9 month old dog of mine!! Its just one problem after another at the moment. Weve had problems with him chewing so were keeping him in his crate and we'll try again in a month or so. New problem, he has started pooing in his cage overnight. he gets his evening meal at 5pm as always and we ensure he does his business before bed but every morning for the last 5 days weve come down to a poo. Nothing in his routine has changed, diets the same etc.. We dont know why he has started doing it, he still had the occasional accident usually but it was about once a month. We dont acknowledge it when we find it, we put him outside and clean it up when he cant see. Any ideas or suggestions?

Is your crate to big as sometimes if it is they will still do there business in it.
However you may just have a daft dog like my pug buster who is nearly a year old and every so often we come down to a lovely stinky poop in his cage in a morning and like you nothing about his routine has changed.
Do you know when he is pooing as i sometimes try to beat him to it by getting up in night to let him outside and this seems to work. Although i am tired !!!!!!

Hi, thanks for responding, his cage is big enough for him to stand, turn and lie down fully, i dont think its too big cos when we come down and find it he's usually lay amongst it (lovely), he doesnt mind lying in it which is both odd and horrid!!
The occasional accident is fine, it's just this run he's had but of course he didn't do anything last night!

May be he's protesting at spending so much time in his cage, if you keep him in there in the day because he chews (which is a sign of being bored) and then he is in there through the night it must be boring maybe more attention from you, more things to play with and lots of exercise would be more benificial than just shuting him away Jenny

I agree with the previous post. Give the poor mite a break. He's probably messing himself because he's so wound up at being shut away and scolded all the time. Think how long it takes babies to learn stuff. Dog's aren't as intelligent as (some) humans.
Our poor dog used to mess in the hall, and we told her off, then after a while realised that she'd been "clearing up" her own mess because we'd told her off. We felt awful. They have emotions you know.
Give the dog a break, lots of exercise and a decent routine and you should find the problem sorts itself out.

Iv posted questions on here recently asking for ideas to try and get him out of his cage, he's very destructive when left and chews anyting wooden so for his safety he is crated when we leave him and overnight. He has every toy we could find to help his chewing inc kong, dental kong, nylabone, nylabone dual action, paddywack, rubber toys and balls. Im at home during the day so is with me all the time, he is never crated for more than 3 hours a day at weekends then never longer than 6/7 hours overnight. The 'poor mite' gets a 3/4 mile walk every mornng and similar or longer in the evenings!!

And his routine is very stable as im at home with my daughter so we need s routine for that. And in the question I actually stated that he doesn't get scolded for messing in his cage, we ignore it and clean it up when he cant see us!
