May be a silly question but i was told that a cat can hold its pregnancy? If it is not happy with a situation, labour will be prolonged untill the queen feels comfortable?

Some sources state emphatically not, while others indicate that, if the female is disturbed at or near birthing, she can delay the delivery for a while. The delayed delivery, if true, could have been caused by the 'fight or flight' response caused by a release of adrenaline, which is known to have similar effects on the human body is stressful situations...
Up untill Monday i thought she was ready to have them at any point. I am now looking after 2 young kittens for a friend who has had to go away for a few days.
I keep them in a seperate room from my queen but she knows they are there and now acts very different.
Also if i have handled the kittens my queen will hiss and spit at me no matter how much i wash my hands!
I thought perhaps she may hold giving birth as she was unsettled by the kittens being in the same house.

Maybe she feels the kittens will be a threat to her own?
Is there no one else who can look after your friends kittens so your cat can deliver her litter? The thing I would be worried about would be if doing this, she is putting herself or her litter at risk from complications.
Good luck to you and you cat! Lets us know what happens :)
