Lump after being microchipped.
I had my puppy microchipped on Tuesday and today I noticed a lump about the size of a grape on her neck where the chip went in. Is this a normal reaction or should I contact the vet?

Dog-owning friends have never had this problem either that I know of. See what others say-I am not an expert-but if I were you I would call the vet tomorrow for advice. Is she in pain, or is it irritating her? Is she trying to bite at or scratch it?

Hi Lab Lover,
I do microchipping. I dont believe in microchipping at the same time as vaccinations as any reaction cannot easily be linked to either.
Do you know what the microchip number is? If so could you give me the first 3 digits and I may be able to point you in the right direction for the manufacturer.
Possible reasons for the reaction:
something minor like scar tissue or a hair causing infection.
Transfer or bacteria into the wound site, this could be caused by failing to clean the site before implantation.
Either way, dont wait, contact the implanter asap.
In most cases the reaction will disappear over the next few days.
I would recommend that you regularly get the chip scanned, the more a chip is scanned the easier it becomes to scan.
