Why do staffies like sleeping in beds?

My two year old staffie has started to wait until i am asleep and then creeping into my bed.

Is there any reason why they do this? I'm not happy about it really and wonder whether its just a staffie thing or could she be cold if thats possible??

It's just a dog thing. Your dog isn't cold but just wants to sleep with the pack leader.

Apart from keeping her out of your room there is not much that you can do.

Oh bless! I have three, and they'd ALL creep into bed if I'd let them. SBT's love being around people, and they're lovely, friendly dogs if brought up right. It took me all my time not to let the last pup leap into bed - but she wanted to play, and they can get very boisterous! x

All off my 3 staffies do the same the only way to stop them is not have them in your bedroom , but they make great hot water bottles, one of my bitches has just had 3 puppies they are 4 days old!!

I'm with wolf, its not a staffie thing, it's a dogs thing!

I've had numerous dogs throughout the years and each and everytime I've said "that's it, no more dogs in the bed".....that's never lasted beyond a week.

Mine are Lancashire Heelers and they all get into or on my bed. They do keep your feet warm, and I am sure they feel the cold the same as we do.

Pickles is a Bedlington and trust me if I let her she would be on the bed every night!

She comes up for a cuddle and then gets carried down to her bed in the ktchen every night - spoiled or what!!

Thanks for your answers, i've tried keeping her out of my room and she even has a nice fluffy bed to sleep in but sits and cries if i don't let her on the bed. There's nothing worse than the yappy cry of a SBT.

I think Lil is probably to spoilt now to be honest, she's a proper little performer as well, the other half and i went to the cash point a few weeks ago and she sat down lapping up the attention she was getting from those in the queue, until it was his turn to use the CP, she then decided to jump up at the CP barking!

No - not just a staffie thing.
I have a rescue pup. Her parentage is very uncertain but I guess that there is probably a bit of terrier in her. Anyhow, she will go to her cosy, cute (and expensive!) bed which is beside ours. All goes well until she is sure that we are both asleep and then up the wee rascal jumps! If we don't chase her down, her next move is to try tunnelling underneath the duvet!

I have the resolution of a teddy bear! When we first got Jack, I said he could sleep downstairs. When we moved, he slept out in the hall on his blanket. Then my partner began night shift, and said I should let Jack in the bedroom while I was in alone at night, as company. I agreed. So we decided he could only come on the bed in the daytime, when invited. Then he could come on anytime, but only when invited. Now we have to wait for an invite from him before we can get into bed! ;)
My partner is back on day shift, and Jack gets off the bed no problem when we get in. As soon as we settle down, however, he is back on, cuddled up at the end of the bed. He has recently taken to lying alongside my partner so he is trapped between me and the dog, all night!

All best-laid plans go to pot when you get a dog. It's great! x

My parents have two St. Bernards which are huge beasts.

Obviously there is not room on their bed for all four but when I visit they can happily sleep on my bed.

Apart from some seriously meaty flatuence, I rather like it.

Abdulmajid - I thought that you were going to say that your dad had to sleep on the floor so that the dogs could get on the bed. :-)

I have also discovered that a big dog can take up less room than a cat.

yep my dog is a bit of a f a r t e r as well and man when he lets one rip he doesnt miss!!!

What I find amazing is, how do they know that you're fast asleep???

I've got 2 staffies which sleep with us in the bed at night too. To begin with they would wait until we were asleep.

Trust me, we tried to lie and pretend sleep.. did the whole pretend snoring too. Nothing happened. They must have thought "yeah right, we're not THAT stupid".

Now a days we just call them up onto the bed when we get in as it's easier for all to get comfy instead of waking up 1/2 way thru the night with half your duvet stuck under a dog :-)

She's done it all this week, so i just gave in completely last night and cuddled her like a teddy, she was snoring within minutes!

There's no way we'll ever get round this Lil knows how cute she is.

What i love is how excited she gets when i get home from work, she never fails to go loopy for a few minutes before sitting down and letting mummy cuddle her :)

Dogs even get excited if you were only out of the house for five minutes. When my dog was alive and I had a hard and tiring day at work I used to dread getting home. He was just SO happy to see me.

My cats just look up when I come into the house - the glare at me and go back to sleep.

She's been a really good girl this week, when we leave for work we normally put her cage up though leave the door open for her to have the choice.

This week, we have not put the cage up at all and shes not chewed, just slept on her fluffy bed, could it be that the cage made her anxious??

My cocker is a real bed bug, he gets on the end of the bed when we first get in, if either of us talks to each other he is up and walking across the pillows, then he tries to lift the duvet up, so i lift it up and he is down the bottom of the bed.....2 minutes later he is too hot, so out he comes..........5 minutes later he wants back in....hot again....etc etc....then he gets off finally, and sleeps on the landing..........however when we awake in the morning, he is always back on the bed, in the middle stretched out while my other half n I are balanced either side of the bed.

Incidentally
I usually let him have run of the house when we are out, however i came home 2 weeks ago to find my duvet cover and duvet had been massacred...............i wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry..............especially with him sat amongst the debris looking so proud of what he had achieved...........
