Our dog has been stung by a bee with no serious reaction except for swelling. Any ideas on treatment and can I use anti histamine remedy meant for humans.

NEVER use medicines for humans on pets. You could KILL the animal. Surely a call to the vet to check will cost nothing.
If you scraped the sting out your dog should be ok soon. Apply some ice to reduce swelling.
You can give a Piriton tablet.....and it'll cost you far less than what the vet will prescribe!!!!!

Roll eyes at tallulah!

Yes you can give piriton, and if its a bee sting apply some bi carb of soda, if it was a wasp apply lemon juice or vinegar.
Unless there is serious swelling or any other signs of a reaction, then no vet is needed. :-)

You can use Piriton - but you can also phone your vet for advice - it's free and more accurate than what you'll get here!
So there is no point any of us bothering to give informed answers borne out of experience then Noweia? Actually, I can think of several examples where vets have given clients advice and it has been either incorrect or out of date or they have lacked any knowledge of certain conditions. You yourself have often offered advice, as in this thread, so are people to assume this is inaccurate as well?
Poor thing , give him/her a cuddle from me x
Sorry to hog the thread, but in reply to Lankeela:

I would rather people assumed my advice was incorrect and phoned their own vets - it only costs the price of the phone call and that's what the vet is there for. I only worry because sometimes I see ridiculous, perhaps dangerous, advice given out by people who are convinced they are correct (not referring to yourself - your answers are always spot on) and of course if you don't know the answer you've no way of knowing what is right and what is wrong. Most of the questions on here are common questions and could be better answered in a phone call, rather than the replier having to ask a lot of questions before posting a proper answer on here. And as for the several occasions of bad advice - I'm sure that does happen, but in the majority of cases the advice should be accurate.
Agree with you Noweia. x
If you have any natural yogurt, put a dollop of that on your dogs sting, it will sooth, bring any infection down and if your dog licks it it won't fdo her any harm, and you can re-apply it again.
