what happens if father and daughter dog mate? I have heard that the pups are would have behaviour problems or even deformity, can anybody please advise.

All that and worse, like Fits. Please don't interbreed.

I had to have an inbred dog put down as could not watch while it went thru a fit....The breeder admitted to in-breeding and offered another dog but I had money back instead!
Providing the mother of the daughter was unrelated to the father, it really doesn't matter much and is done quite often to try and stabilise certain breed characteristics. It is when this is done on a regular basis that problems will probably crop up like in line breeding.
Unless records have been kept of the breeding pair you will not know if they are related as many people lie when they sell pets and will sell sibling pairs of pairs as unrelated.
A reputable breeder shouldn't do this.
