Is my cat's tail broken and did my fella do it?

Got home from work yesterday to find my cat had a limp tail. When I tried to touch it I felt a lump near the base but he hissed at me as I think it is painful for him. He is still eating etc and is pretty much normal.
My fella who had been at mine all day with the cat says he never even noticed and swore he could not think of an incident that could have happened to cause this, I am not quite sure I believe him.
Should I take him to the vets or see if he gets better over the next couple of days??

If you think your fella could have done this then why are you with him! No basis for a relationship.

But this does not answer your question. Take him to the vet immediately. If this is not seen to immediately and the tail is dead then your cat could end up with gangrene.

I meant by accident... but he is denying it. I just dont know how he cant have noticed, maybe he is scared to tell me.
Oh I see. Sorry then that I spoke out of turn. However, if I had done something accidentally I would say so. Perhaps he is, as you say, scared of you ;o) .

But please take your cat straight away. If his tail can't be saved they will remove it and he will cope, but a limp dead tail at the very least will very much get in his way.

Once again, sorry but I sort of thought you meant that your fella might have kicked out at the cat intentially.

I really hope it will all be OK.

Would not having a tail affect his balance?

Initially yes, but he'll soon adapt. Think of a Manx cat :-)

As Lottie has already advised, your best bet would be to take him to the vet, as you obviously can't tell if he really is in pain and if the end's broken off he will need to have it taken off.

Good luck!
It might be that when the bruising goes down the tail might be OK as the nerves heal. But you must take him.

Once again, an idiot just has to spoil a thread for no good reason.
And I thought my reply was ok too Lottie, you sure do know how to hurt a girls feelings sniff, sniff
it could just be a bad bruise? or an infection from a bit or something?

take the cat to the vets and find out asap.

I got my cat insured 3-4 days ago, I dont suppose I would be able to claim on that yet would I?
Yes, Sazzy did indicate her cat was male. Just read the question.

However, I apologise NoKnowledge as I really didn't understand that you were talking about the boyfriend - and I would have laughed at that.

I keep apologising to everybody on this thread, so

Sorry BOO (I don't want to leave you out)!
when did you get the cat ? Was it recent if youve only just insured it?
I don't see why not Sazzy. Insurances are usually in force as soon as they are agreed. Ring them and see.

I've had him nearly two years, my Bro's cat got ran over a couple of days ago and it has cost him quite a bit so that is what prompted me to do it. I would just be worried they would think I only insured him to get any treatment covered for this but it is just coincidence really..
