My 2 year old mixed breed dog has large weeping scabs on his head and is feeling under the weather. The scabs seem to irritate although he hasn't scratched ( can't reach?) I can't see anything except gungy scabs as he has short very thick hair. I have put on a dog unction (pink cream) but the scabs are spreading down his neck. Any ideas?

Get him to the vets to be checked out in case it's some kind of parasite or similar or something else nasty, especially if it's spreading and they are weeping, running the risk of further infection.

Hopefully it can then be treated before it gets worse and spreads even more, he must be very uncomfortable, bless him.

Thanks for the reply. We will take him to the vets on Monday but he is getting lots of extra strokes meanwhile.
think he has a mite problem. Swab the scabs with salted water and dust with antiseptic powder like athletes foot powder; till you can get vet advice.
