Have my little dog about 5 years now. The other night I was putting him outside as I was going out for a few hours - however he gave me a little growl cos he was so comfy - this would be the 2nd time he has growled at me and I dont like it. Some of you may say keep him in but the other night I did keep him in and he done a piddle at the kitchen door. Is the growling normal

I don't want to appear to be making light of your post but he's a dog - of course growling is normal.

If you were all nice and comfy in your bed asleep and someone came and made you get up to be put outside you might be a little annoyed - growling is a dogs way of showing this.

If you're dog is fully housetrained he should be able to last more than a couple of hours without needing the loo - try letting him out for his business before you go out - then he will have just had a wee so won't do it on your carpet!!

Sorry but I think I would growl if I was put outside on these very cold nights when I was settled, why not try taking him out for a wee before you go out first.Hope I don't sound too blunt connemmara but thats how I would feel.g.

I wouldn't put a dog out. Make him go outside just before you go to bed and wait until he has had a wee. Then let him back in with a 'good boy' and perhaps a treat. I would bite your hand off if you tried to put me out this weather!!
My girls would sulk and sulk but I would out wait them and eventually they would give in and wee, and return to the patio door wagging their tails.

do you mean out for a pee/poo and in again or outside and stop out there? I hope you mean the first and not the second!
I don't think that 2 growls in 5 years is a big deal but if it was me I'd get his collar and lead and put that on him to take him outside, slipping the lead off once he's in the garden. Once he gets a the idea that growling gets him nowhere (don't make a big deal of it, just ignore and put the collar lead on) and that you will wait outside with him till he goes AND that he gets a treat after he has been (NEVER before) then he should give in and behave.
