loss of dog
On Jan 17, 2009 my dog was waiting patiently by the front door to go for a ride when she saw a dog across the street, she jumped up onto the door and somehow it came open and she took off after it, meaning no harm at all, she just wanted to say "hi", and she got hit and killed by a car. She was barely 2 years old, a terrier mix (about 45lbs), she was my little baby girl and after almost 5 weeks I can't stop thinking about her and it hurts so much. She would go everywhere with me (when possible). She loved our cats our other dog she fit in perfectly in our family and there is a huge void now. She was my sidekick for 2 years. If I was outside she would be outside. If I was taking a shower in the basement she would wait for me on the steps until I was done and then she would want to race me up the steps, she would wait until I said "go" to move, there were thousands of things she would do to make you smile and laugh out loud. Sometimes you would think that she did them just to make you laugh. She was one of a kind. When does the pain start letting up? I cannot stop thinking of her! I really did love her!

Some people can go out and get another dog, but some feel they are betraying the memory of the one they have lost. I personally could not be without a dog, although since I got my second dog I have never had just the one.
It certainly gives you something to concentrate your mind on, and no-one would feel you were being disloyal to your other one. Giving a home to another rescue perhaps might help you to get over the loss. You never forget them, and if you concentrate on thinking about the good times you can remember them with a smile rather than a tear.
Sounds like you have so much to give to another one, why not think about it?

so sorry to hear of your loss, it hurts so much doesnt it the pain does get less and you will move on, you will never forget or replace her, but the next one will be a different little character all over again with its own funny little ways ,as lankeela says you have lots to offer and i expect your baby would give you a glowing reference , i lost my old girl 10 months ago it still hurts and i still cry over her but i do start to think about having another one and feel ready to move on ,in time you will do to all the best ruth
This is just dreadful for you, particularly with such a young dog. You will never replace her and you will think of her always, although the dreadful hurt will heal in time.
I have had several dogs over the years and each and every one of them has been very special. I have never tried to 'replace' them, but after I have lost them I have always taken on other rescued dogs and puppies that are in need of a good home and they have helped me as much as I have helped them.
The pain will die down gradually, I promise, but do think about giving another little needy dog a home. It won't replace your precious friend, but you will probably love it just as much in a different way.
I understand just how you feel.
Take care x

Hi Adrian
so sorry to hear about your dog. I know how much part of the family they can be. As for your grieving I dont really know how long it takes, when I lost my elderly cat last July, I was absolutely distraught and even now I go to bed and think of him and start to cry.
She will always be around you, because she knows how much you loved her.
I wrote to the Blue Cross pet bereavement who were very helpful. I found it much easier to write my feelings than speak of them. They encouraged me to express my feelings and I could have rang them if I had wanted. they are definitely very helpful.
you also have us here to try and help you. I wish you all the best.

Aww what a sad story, so sorry for your loss adrian :(
I lost my 18 year old cat two years ago to old age, I still remember her jumping up at the net curtains to catch flies when she was a kitten.
I don't think the pain ever goes away when you have loved them for however long, it just becomes less intense as the time passes.

Adrian28, I think you will miss her so much for a while yet, its only expected when you lose someone as close as she was and full of such personality as well! I am very sorry for you but it will ease with time believe me! If you think of the accident you will get very upset so try and focus on all the fun things you did together and I am sure she will be around you in spirit. It won't matter to you how many doggies I have lost over the years cos yours was the best and the most loved, so hugs to you and keep on in there.
Later on you will be surprised you may find yourself looking for another little friend, we all say we won't but we do.

adrian28-------am so very sorry to hear about your dog.
I know exactly how you feel , it will get better ,trust me, in time.
Remember all the good times, the fun you had together, and compliment yourself that you gave your pet all the love in the world whilst you were together.
Try not to blame yourself in anyway, it was an accident, and you could not have prevented it.
In the future when you feel a lot better you may haveanother dog, but perhaps not just at the moment.
A new dog is a fresh start, a new life together and never a replacement .It can't be that when you have loved so much.
Take care of yourself, and it is really now one day at a time.
Sincere regards .B.

I, too, am really sorry to hear about your dog. It is always hard when you lose somebody that you loved so much.
I still remember the pain of losing my first dog and that happened about 20 years ago.
Remember the good times and laugh about them - it takes time before the raw pain at the loss starts to diminish, but everybody deals with loss differently.
Best wishes.

Goddess70, your reply could have been mine word for word, even to the flies on the curtains. I said I would never get another cat but was persuaded about six months later. The cat I have now is gorgeous but so different than the one I lost. I will never forget him but am glad I have another one now. I gives me something to focus on. Adrian, give it some time and get another pet to love. A new pet will love you too.
adrian28: Is this a genuine story? If so, I offer similar sentiments to those already posted here by others.
If not, however, we're all going to look like a right bunch of wallies (as Del Boy might have said!).
The reason I have reservations if because you've made absolutely no reference whatever, apart from saying that your dog was hit and killed by a car, to the aftermath of that incident. What I mean is that I'm quite sure that the car driver must have been in shock at having killed your pet?
Just sounds to me like there's more to this than meets the eye.
And before I'm descended upon like the proverbial ton of bricks, I, too, am a pet owner and know exactly what it is to have one run over by a car.

I guarantee you this is a true story. Actually since we were getting ready for a ride I was right behind her trying to stop her. I ran out into the street and picked her up and took her to my truck and on the way to the vet she died. My wife said the person did stop by and see what happened but I was already gone. A week later somebody else stopped by saying they witnessed the accident and was wondering if our dog made it. This was a Saturday Morning, any other Saturday of Jan I would not have been home (I had to work)and it would not have happened. All of this just tears me up inside. I have not stop thinking of her since! I do have another puppy but it is going to take some time for her and I to bond like my other one.
car driver being shocked paraffin! most dont give a damn i have had two cats killed on the road this year the drivers couldnt even be bothered to stop and put them on the side of the road just left them laying in the road how many times do you see a cat laying in the road all to often they are hit and the drivers drive on i folowed adriver through the village next to ours he drove straight through a mother a nd duckling family he could have easily stopped and let them cross people dont care anymore
