flea collar

hi have just noticed a flea on one of my cats, have gone out and bought both of them flea collars. would i have been better buying a spot on treatment first then putting a flea collar on them?

Just asking is there ever one flea ?.My dog has just had them from fighting with hedgehogs. Has taken 2 weeks to get rid . Did spot treatment first after bathing her with flea shampoo and when dry again. Then a flea collar, flea spray for her basket , washed all bedding , sprayed the areas she lies in , and round skirting boards. Brushed her well in between times . A nightmare really --but hopefully now clear again and hedgehogs into hibernation !!!!!Good luck.

Be very careful with flea treatments. It is possible to poison your pet if you use too much so always follow the instructions carefully. Most spot-on treatments state that you should not use other treatments at the same time.
BYT Watch your cat carefully around the area of the collar as I once used one on one of my cats and it cut into her neck; she got a tumour on her neck about 6 months later and I am sure that it was due to the insecticide from the collar getting into the wound.

thanks all, got rid of the flea collars and used frontline. seems to have worked will keep on top of the flea situation, at least now they are dying off (fleas not cats)
