R.I.P Our Tigger

My facebook friends know all about this, but for anyone else I would like to tell u about the guilt I am feeling. Tigger my mums 15 year old cat, went missing for 5 days last week, he eventually turned up in their front garden on Friday night. His leg was very swollen.

I took him to the vet the next day who said that it was poisoned and would have to be drained, anyway to cut a long story short, the vet rang me yesterday morning to say the injury was a lot worse than they first thought. His paw had been crushed and the blood supply to the whole leg had been lost. He had a dead leg and the only option was amputation.

Because he was an old cat, and he may not have made it through the op. the shock could have killed him later, I was left with a terrible choice. I spoke to my mum and dad who are both elderly, and we decided that it would be kinder to let him go, as he wouldnt have any quality of life really.

So thats what I did, and now even tho everyone says it was the right thing, and he will be fine now, playing with all the other much loved pets on Rainbow Bridge, I feel really bad.

Awww, sorry to read this, always hard when we lose a much loved pet :-(

I guess all you, and your parents can do is console yourself that Tigger did have a long and happy life and that you did what was best, because you loved him, right up to the end.

You did the right thing, Jan..........and the humane one too......dont feel bad, my lovely.

He's in the best place now....no pain........playing around with all the other much loved pets in animal heaven.....:0)

I feel I did the right thing, but the guilt is so overwealming.

Yes he did have a good life, we knew he would come to a sticky end one day because he was a very adventurous little fella, and we will scatter his ashes in the woods he used to play in.

Plus, they might get dug up by some burrowing animal.

That's the price we pay for loving our pets - but you didn't injure his leg, all you did was what was absolutely right for Tigger. Rather feel thankful you were strong enough to make his going as comfortable for him as possible. When these decisions have to be made is when true animal lovers stand up and are counted. Hard for you but right for him and as you said, his quality of life wouldn't have been good. Suddenly having only three legs to get around on when he's probably got a bit of arthritis etc - extra stress on the remaining three legs, maybe a bit confused and wobbly. No, you did the right thing and well done - I'm sure your parents are very grateful you were around to sort this. Rather try and focus on the good thing you did. Go well

Aw i'm so sorry to hear about Tigger but you did the right thing. It is so hard to let a beloved pet go but you have to do what's best for the pet.

Bless you Jan - It's three years since I had to have my pooch go to the kennel in the sky... I still miss her and call out 'Rosie' every time I come home... much to the new(ish) cat's indignation! Tiggs will be so much happier now he's not scared or in pain any longer... don't feel guilty... <3 xx

just sprinkle Tigger's ashes lightly through his favourite wood and when the bluebells flower next spring, it'll be a bumper crop - it gets better, but it takes time so take care and try not to feel guilty [ hard, I know]
