and how? in the garden there are some baby blue tits and their parents aren't coming to feed them. What can we give them and how do i feed them?
the parents havent been back for like an 2 hours now
I don't think there is much you can do, if you go to the babies the parents may reject them altogether. They will be eating tiny insects and chewed up worms etc - unless you want to take on feeding them until they fledge, I think you may have a problem. The parents may be away feeding themselves. Do you have to go to the nest to check? The presence of humans might be putting the parents off coming back?
i have read that birds will not abandon the babies just because humans have touched them, they have a poorly developed sence of smell. also i have read that they have to feed every 15 mintutes until they fledge and then every hour. thats why i was getting worried. and no i have been looking for inside the house because they are in a nest box and we can clearly see the box. i dont know how many babies there are and every so often one sits in the entrance and exit hole and call for its parents but they dont come :( im getting worried because it is so cold and very windy.
Don't think there is a lot you can do, just hope the parents turn up. You looking in the nest will not stop parent birds feeding the babies. I know this for a fact because my son is a bird 'ringer' (monitoring birds) and he has to 'ring' fledglings in nests and there's never a problem.
If the chicks are frequently seen at the pophole it means they are not far from fledging. The body weight of chicks a few days before fledging is more than that of an adult. At that time the parents feed them less to make them lose weight or the young won't be able to fly.
By now you'll know whether the parents have been back or not. Hope everything is ok.
yes they did :D and they all flew the nest yesterday. but sadly when i looked in the box their was a dead one left inside. :( we have taken him out and put the box back.
