oh noooo, my cat loves onion bahjees! luckily for him we hardly ever have them, and even then there are seldom any left over! Good article though swedeheart, didn't know about cats and onions obviously, or the grapes and dogs.

Under cooked food meat and eggs!!!

My dogs, (see my profile picture) are fed only raw food, raw meat, bones, eggs, fish. They eat whole chickens etc,(all their meet is human grade meat) after seeing what rubbish they put in commercial pet food we decided never to feed them that rubbish again. since we went over to feeding a far more natural diet, tour dogs have excelled! they are calmer, their coats have improved, their teeth never need cleaning and our little Shi-tzu 9 (now 10 years old) that has had a skin complaint all his life is now free of it, it cleared up within a few weeks of going over to raw food, our Irish Wolfhounds are pedigree dogs and regularly shown and win prizes.

And guess what, feeding human grade raw meat etc is actually cheaper!! :)

I think commercial dog food should be added to that list!!

I like the look of your wolfie, ratter, is he really such a big dog or are you just short? which ever it is if your other dogs are the same I bet you nobody argues with you when you're walking them all together

Paddywak, I'm 5'11" yes he (Gilligan)really is that big and still growing as he is only 13 months old, My other Wolfie (Merlin) is 2 years old and a half brother to Gilligan, Merlin is a little smaller as he is a rescue and wasn't fed well for the first three months of his life which has stunted his growth just a little, He still qualified for Crufts though :)

They really are the gentlest dogs on the planet and never an aggressive bone in their body.

I was speaking to someone with a guide dog last week - she told me that another lady that she knows was going around M&S with her own guide dog. At one point somebody said to her "Excuse me - do you know that your dog has a Battenburg cake in its mouth". Surprisingly it was a Labrador.

Don't worry k8bailey, we all poison ourselves to some degree every day. My cat lived to be seventeen and I'm sure she had the odd onion too. Anyways, I hereby volunteer to eat your leftover bhajees in the future - I just googled them and it made my mouth water.

And now I'm crying with laughter from your Battenberg story Wolf...! Perhaps it was Eddie's spaced-out Lab having the munchies...

There seems to be some controversy over the list and also some missing pieces; I showed this list to a couple of other ABers and they made a few remarks to that effect. I'll show them this thread too and ask them to give their information here.

Watch out for pork...apparently quite a lot of dogs are allergic to it, Mine is.
Also apparently garlic is safe in moderation, it is regularly suggested as a natural wormer and flea repellant.
Love the guide dog story....our first dog's dad was owned by the lady who bred our boy...he was a total so and so, Weimaraners often are. Anyway he lived near wimbledon common and used to slip out and go for visits on his own. People used to take him to the local police station where they made the mistake of feeding him treats. He quickly learned to cut out the middle man and just take himself straight to the police station. Mind you this was over 20 years ago;nowadays if he didn't get run over on the way, the dangerous dogs act would probably do for him

Thanks swedeheart.... having looked at the list, I am OK on most of them for my three cats, but No. 1 Son-cat is partial to chewing chives in the garden from time to time (He likes anything which looks like grass) and he's 11 next week, so I guess in small amounts he's managed to cope with it!

Citrus fruit is also toxic to cats, luckily they don't like the smell but if they get the oil on their fur and lick it they can become unwell, just shoo them off if you are preparing the fruit. Also liver in excessive quantities raw especially its the vit A apparently as they can't metabolise it in the way humans do.

In 1980 we got our first puppy - a bull-mastiff/GSD cross. He was just like another brother. He was a better brother than my brother actually.

My mum used to buy him a Yorkie bar to eat each Friday and he wolfed down the chocolate with relish. We never got any of the chocolate. Life was easier when we didn't know what was bad or good for us and out pets.

Frankie ate almost his weight in Honey Roast Ham today - I tried telling him that it was bad for cats but he ignored me.

haha..wolf's & woofgang's stories are so funny. As a child in our area it was commonplace to see a dog trotting by alone with a stolen treat from the local grocery store. There was one in particular I remember who padded past the bus stop carrying a Hovis - they were sold unwrapped :o)

Can anyone tell me whether pasta is bad for dogs or not? I'm sure it was added to tinned dog food at one time...then there was a fuss about it not being good for them after all. My little dog loves a bit of it & he also picks up the odd raisins dropped by the blackbirds...he's 13 & half & tearing around despite having a bad heart so I don't think they've done him any harm. Mind you, they do tend to come out as they went in...sorry, TMI! :o)

Robinia I don't know anything at all about pasta and pets, what I do remember having heard is that pasta is a strain on human kidneys. Something to do with the durum flour. It could be, I suppose, that's true for dogs as well...?
