Mine was a Guinee Pig when I was 9. Today I'm a cat lover.

tortoise which I loved dearly and I can remember finding it dead one day and running up and down the street crying my eyes out and telling everyone I met what had happened. am a horsey/dog/cat person now but still have a soft spot for torties.

I had a guinea pig too, I was aged 7. Next door's cat managed to get into it's outdoor hutch and attack it though. My mum refused to take it to the vet and made one of my older brothers smash it's skull in with a house brick (;_;).
I have had many cats in my adult life (9 at once at one point) but can't have them any longer due to my lung disease.

Awww! daffy, that wasn't very nice of your mum, but I suppose she thought she was doing the right thing to put the poor thing out of its misery.
Sorry you can't have a cat anymore my D-in- L has the same prob.

a budgie called twinkie which was an escapee from somewhere and which we caught in the garden. we had her a couple of years until she became ill, all her feathers fell out and she got covered in scabs. my dad had to drown her. reckon i was about 6.
years later, think i was about 12, we got a cairn terrier called sandy, bad tempered little dog who never learned to walk on a lead. died at the vets when having a tooth extracted.
gave up having pets after that until i grew up and got married.

My sister and I had a budgie each when we were about 7 and 9..........hers was called Joey and mine was called Minnie, but they had to be put in separate cages as they used to fight.
Never had a pet of my own (the daughter had a dog) until I started working from home about 7 years ago when I got my first dog, who was a very old rescue dog. After she died I got Casper my westie. (i briefly had a cat called William which I hated and gave away as quickly as I could)

Not so much mine but the family pet, a little brown heinz called believe it or not Brownie, I can remember it always seemed to be under my feet, and when he died I was only seven and I couldn't stop crying, I dont think I really understood I just knew he wasn't there to play with any more. We've always had a dog usually GSD's with Max my avatar being the latest

a cat called jemima (after the playschool character!) which my dad unfortunately ran over in the car on our front drive (she had a silly habit of sleeping on the tyres). miraculously she survived and went on to have some kittens - one of which we kept and called boris (?). they lived to a ripe old age and i was gutted when they both died while i was in my teens. i now have three lovely but mad cats (all different in their own way) who are my surrogate babies and very spoilt x

My first pet was a stick insect in a large sweet jar as its home with twigs for it to eat.I was 6 at the time.
Have a dog today , and have always had dogs.

I had a budgie when I was eight, but sadly my parents didn't realise that I couldn't differentiate between seed and husks, so I didn't feed him properly and he died before his time. We didn't have any pets then until my brother got a rabbit. Our worst experience was bringing home the mice from the lab over the school holidays - there were about a million of them by the time we took them back in September..... today, we are slave to three cats.
