My cat, now 8 yrs old who is fit & well, has started drinking quite a lot of water. He's never really drank very much in the past - should I be concerned with this sudden desire? could this be his body telling him something's wrong? Anyone know anything?

Please call the vet straight away --excessive thirst could be a sign of diabetes or another illness.  We don't want that kitty sick!  Good luck and let us know what happens!

Could be kidney trouble - does he smell of pee pee? Get him to a vet and good luck.

I agree with the others - definitely take you cat to the vets asap!

The only reason my cats started to drink more water was because I switched their food from wet to dry.  But I took them to the vets anyway - it's worth it for some peace of mind.

I agree with all of the above, he may look well & fit but only a vet can confirm that for you. I'd hate to think your kitty was suffering without you knowing about it.
Elderly cats often have problems with kidneys and bladder - ca n be treated but need to see vet asap

my cousin's cat suddenly started drinking the water that dripped from the tap in my bath.  She is fine (went to vet to be sure), my cousin doesn't really know why she started doing it.  Maybe just changing taste - she has gone off meat a bit too and now sometimes goes for days only eating biscuits.  We bought her a kitty drinking fountain which she loves so no more muddy pawprints in my nice clean bath!

Hi ronianna, my cat is nearly 11 years old and somedays she has drunk her water bowl dry. Yesterday I took her to the vet and they've taken a blood test so at the moment I'm waiting to hear. I'll keep you posted.

Found out It is Diabetes.
