Why does my daughters dog eat grass..He's 14 years old. Has that got anything to do with it?

He/she is self medicating and no, age has nothing to do with it.
Some dogs just like eating grass. My cats sit and munch on a tub of grass that I have growing in the house.
Truth is, no-one knows for sure. Google for 'dogs eat grass' and find heaps of links on the subject, but no definite conclusions.
Most dogs do it, young or old and it often makes them vomit. It is said they eat grass because they feel unwell and supposedly being sick makes them feel better.

One of my dogs Freddie, nibbles grass, and the tops off my chives!!
I think it is a confirmed "old wives tale" that dogs eat grass to self medicate.

Ive read up on this many times over the years and as heathfield said, "no-one knows for sure" Personally I think they just enjoy the taste or/and the texture.

one of our wolfhounds is 11 months and she loves to eat it.
My cat is always eating grass and then she comes in to throw it up.
Prudie - mine usually wait until the are on my bed or the sofa before barfing.

There is so much of animal behaviour that we don't fully understand. We can make guesses and most of the time we have managed to interpret the signs.

Like - why is my curvaceous lady cat walking back and forward on the back of this computer chair? She is crying "eek" as she goes about her pacing.
Cos she lurves you and wants your attention:-)
