Hi folks, I thought I'd update you about Alfie. The x-rays revealed something completely unexpected - that his digestive system was configured wrongly and everything was in the wrong place. The vet asked if she could carry out surgery straight away and warned that it would cost anything up to £1,000, depending on what she found. I told her to do whatever she had to do, and I walked out of the surgery a sobbing mess. I finally got a call about 9:20pm to say that she had found a badly twisted colon that was on the verge of rupturing, although, worryingly, she was unable to determine the cause of his condition, as there was no obvious blockage. She managed to reposition everything but warned me that he was still "a very poorly boy".

I phoned this morning and she was thrilled to inform me that Alfie had done a big poo and, providing he keeps his food down today, he can come home later this afternoon. I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. x x

Sqad is a very kind gent indeed. Had I not been able to fund treatment myself, he would have been my guardian angel!

Thanks for all your good wishes. I bet he'll be hugely relieved to get out of there. :-)

Thanks, Jan. It's a huge relief that he came through surgery. x x

Mazie, he's on his way up here now. Should be here in a few hours. :-)
How lovely for you NoM, both your best boys with you. I hope you have the Vino on ice :o)
My last cat, George, had a deformed back and his organs were also not quite where they were meant to be. He lived to be a grumpy (very grumpy) old man. The vet said that he was probably the runt of the litter - horrible thing to say about my baby. ';-)

Alfie must feel so much better now that he has done his poo.

It is also really good that you got him to the vets before the colon ruptured - that would have been very bad.

Best wishes to both of you - and I hope that Alfie is up and running around soon.
Oh God, NoMercy you poor thing :(
Poor little Alfie, I hope he makes a full recovery and is home with you now.
*hugs for you and Alfie * xxx
Awww only just seen this thread. Hope Alfie makes a full recovery, what wonderful things they can do now...you must be so pleased he will soon be home poor little soul. Must just say what a wonderful gesture from Sqad too...now there really ARE some kind, caring souls about....I wish the world were made up of more of them.

best wishes to you all.
