My puppy is being very naughty...

She is a cross terrier and I have had her from the rescue center for 5 months. She was house trained in 12 days and always looked at me or gave a little bark when she wanted to go outside to do her business.

The past week she has started having a pee on the carpet in front of me at nighttime and in the hallway which I find very annoying, as when she goes to bed at night on her bed in the kitchen, she never makes a mess.

Any ideas why she has started doing this?

Its cosier for dog to pee on a warm dry carpet. Put down newspaper where she can pee indoors, preferably near her bed. Lock her in the kitchen at night so she has to use the newspaper.

I dont think anything is necessarily wrong with a dog if it chooses to pee on a carpet.

I wouldnt say naughty, she is a puppy and still learning. Has anything changed in the house that could interrupt her routine? What do you do or say when she wee's on the carpet?

in the absence of any medical problem - go back to taking her out with more more regularity - as you did when you were house training her - don't make a big thing of it either. its just a little blip in her growing up I'm sure.

Please do not put down newspaper!!! This will just encourage her to keep in going in doors.
Go back to basics....when you catch her in the act a firm no and take her outside then praise her when she does her business! Take her out every hour on the hour too!

How old is she? Could she be coming in season?

Lankeela, exactly what I was going to say. If she's not been spayed then she is at an age where she could be about to start her first season. I had a bitch who was as clean as they come until her season was due. If she was doing it more often through the day then i would suggest that she could have a urinary infection, but if it's just once in the evening then I suspect it's more hormonal

I thought season too...IMO never a good idea to put paper down indoors for pup as its confusing.

I think you could be right Lan and woof, it could be seasonal as she has been licking her private parts a lot just lately. I suppose I will have to have her spayed.

not now...you need to wait until the season is well over, talk to the vet about it.
