Sad Day
48 Answers
I'm feeling very sad today. Yesterday I had to have Sally my Border Collie put to sleep. She was 13 and a half and hadn't been well for some time but it was still a shock. She collapsed in the night and the vet thinks she had a small bleed in the brain. The house is so quiet and I keep having a little weep! I shall get another one eventually but that not helping right now!

That's him in my avatar. I was with him when he went and at first it was all I could think of, but now that memory is fading and all the good parts of our near 14 years together have been coming back to me. I hope this becomes true for you, too.
Sorry for your pain, I too know what it's like to lose a beloved dog. The empty spaces where he/she used to be, the empty house, no more happy dog running to greet you when you come home. It's hell and yet we do it again and again because they need us just as much as we need them. In time you'll love another dog, but you'll never, never forget Sally. Hope you have someone who will listen to you while you talk about her.
I only have my son who lives away in Bristol to talk to really, who understands anyway, but he's been great. Otherwise its everyone on here who has helped most so thanks everyone. I'm not as weepy today but the house is so empty and no greeting when I came in this afternoon. I know each day will get a bit better and eventually I will get another friend!
linedancer, have only just seen this. I am so sorry for your huge loss but you must have given Sally a very good life. In my experience, once you have decided that you will get another companion, why wait too long? There is always a dog who could do with a good home and it is far better to channel your energy into looking after and loving another 4legs than not. Memories of Sally will never leave you but they can be added to. Good luck xxx
Thanks ttfn. You're right and I dont think it will be very long before I get another friend. I've just got back from the RSPCA home where I am a dog walking volunteer and it was good to go out for a walk. I am away for a week in August and when I get back I shall probably look for a new companion. I will let everyone who has been so kind know what happens.
