Update/New cat

A few months ago I recieved lots of support and advice here when I had to make the difficult descision to have my gorgeous 8yr old cat Elvis, put to sleep, he had leukemia and was in a very bad way.
Shortly afterwards we moved house and Elvis' death and the new house have left our other cat (Roxy) looking miserable, so we have decided to get a playmate for her, as she's never been an only cat before.
Went to the RSPCA last weekend - my mum is a volunteer dog walker there and made me promise to try there first. I'd intended to get a slightly older one but, the staff at the centre recommended a sweet little 9 week old bundle of ginger fluff, who had been abandoned! As Roxy is still so young (18m), and we have 2 young children (1 & 3), they think he will settle in quickly with us - I hope so!

Do be prepared just in case there is a bit of difficulty at first with Roxy - it may not happen, but a new kitten is quite a change from her old friend, and kittens can be quite demanding! - just make sure Roxy gets a chance for peace and quiet if she wants it, and lots of cuddles, too. At least Roxy is young too, but you may find them sorting out a pecking order very quickly! You will have a busy household for a few weeks - good luck!

its lovely to hear your positive news k8 :-) but just make sure Roxy leads the intro of the ginger fluff ball! she has had so much change and may or may not take kindly initially to the newbie. Be prepared for huffing and hissing and maybe introduce little one in a cat box so that both of them can see and sniff, without major damage. Roxy might just want to be a mum though, but better safe than sorry. i'm sure they'll settle down quickly and have many years ruling the house together :-)

hi everyone, just thought I'd let you know that we collected the kitten on wednesday and he's great - I've never met a more confident, friendly kitten. he was purring as soon as we got him out of the basket, and strutting around like he owned the place within about 15 mins....he even seems to like the kids!!
Roxy has been great, she will eat next to him, but still looks a little jumpy, making sure she gets lots of attention, and space if she wants it!
Re. it's 'only' a cat....the rational part of my brain keeps trying to tell me that, but I spent a hell of a lot more time with Elvis than I do with some members of my human family, and you only had to watch Roxy to know that she was missing her mate....hopefully 'newbie' and Rox will be best of friends soon!
