Warmish and sunny here in north west and whilst out walking with my dog this morning a large red admiral flew out in front of me from a shrub and fluttered away. Shows what a mild winter we've had so far.

ayg - have seen some down here in the SE too - and some bees. mind you it hasn't stopped the mice packing their suitcases and moving in - suppose they want to be settled before the cold weather arrives.

I've seen small insects on most days, but never a butterfly and no bees either. Poor things must be confused by the mild weather!
I was thinking the same but I don't suppose they ponder too deeply, just take one day at a time.
Question Author
I agree, it was lovely to see the butterfly though
and apols for confusing you with askyourgran - methinks I should adopt your user name!

I did notice rsvp, but too polite to say !
Still getting new flowers appearing on my tomatoes, out in the open garden. If we don't get some proper cold weather soon we are going to have some super-sized creepy crawlies next year!!
Yes, we had butterflies yesterday here in Derbyshire. It's been a lovely autumn.

My summer pansies are still going strong.
Don't like the sound of super sized creepy crawlies at all!
Most of my flowers are still going strong and my ceanothus has started to flower again. Mr RR got bitten by a mossie this afternoon when he was giving the lawn the last mow of the year for the second time.
I've given my lawns the 'last mow' three times now and another one looks as though it'll be on the cards by the end of the week.

If it does ever go really cold, won't we feel it this time! I still only put my heating on in the evening which is great for fuel bills.

My Dad's also mowed his lawn for the 'last time' twice ...
I saw a few large flocks of Canada geese coming in on Friday which made me think Winter is upon us but then yesterday I saw a bumble bee. We had to cut the grass again yesterday 'for the last time' too.
