Birch shield bug

Had one of these land on my leg earlier http://www.britishbug...e/e_intersinctus.html or it could have been a hawthorn shield bug. Anyway, on it's back it looked like it had a transfer/sticker of a tiny butterfly on it, any reason for this. Thanks.

I don't know about the tiny butterfly sherr, but I'm amazed that these bugs are still about in cold, windy, wet December! I see them in summer and think they're very attractive (for a bug)!
