It sounds like bloat. Defrost a couple of frozen peas crush them up and feed them to them.

Good to hear they are taking the peas. Don't feed them any normal food for at least a week....just offer peas every other day....sounds like you could be over feeding and they may be constipated.

lol....you could say that! Twice a day is way too much to feed them. Goldies are notoriously greedy and dirty fish. Most fish will beg for food and you need to be strict with them. Feed once a day and maybe miss one day completely. They will be all the healthier for it. Also add the peas once a week to their diet, as you have seen it keeps things moving in the right direction :0/

my fantail did this and i went to the aquarium centre and the told me it was called swimbladder disease the de-shelled frozen peas worked a treat and he is now swimming normally...

tank is 3ft long, a foot and a bit tall and a foot and a bit wide, i have 6 fish in there and one plec, filter is half a foot tall, and has a small round nob thingy at the front, is this big enough?

Cool, well that sounds like the tank is around 28 gallons so not too bad. If it's a common plec you may want to consider rehoming it as as these babies can grow up to around 2 feet in length and are also big waste producers.
As for the filter its hard to say unless you have the name of the brand. You want to aim for a filter that has a turnover of 6/7 the tank volume per hour so about 7000lph.
