Sport????

It is unbelievable that this animal cruelty still goes on sanctioned by authorities in this day and age.
What kind of hunt? Was it even legal?
The article says that hunting with dogs is still legal in NI
Oh right, sorry woofy- that's what I get for speed reading, lol.
Scumbags on horse back. If it was a pet of mine that was killed, I'd make sure they paid.
Proud to say...I was lifted and cautioned for disrupting a hunt in Herts some years ago...barbaric...chinless wonders seeking thrills at any expense...

murraymints good for you. I too am proud to say that some years back I was a hunt sab and often went out with others to disrupt hunts.
When dogs are on the trail and baying for blood, how could they be under tight control?
They can't sandy, it's not possible. This isn't the first cat killed this way and sadly probably won't be the last.

Redhelen - you said it !
Not a nice thing to happen and thankfully rare but we should all get hysterical and ban all cars too because they kill cats regularly.

murraymints and chap, thank you. all i say is,if joe public went out for a walk with 15/20 dogs etc, over the countryside, and they got out of control when they saw a smaller animal eg a family pet,and they tore it to pieces!! think of how that would play out. in the media etc? not good. but,a hunt is ok when a situation like this one is isolated!! somehow an acceptable casualty of "the chase"!! not isolated either apparently, unfortunately i found out that last year a little jack russell was torn apart by a hunt in n.i.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_irela

thanx for all the replies. bbc site is not allowing me to paste last year's report of that news item
What was the huntsman doing? It's his job to make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen. As for cruelty, have you ever gone into a chicken coop or lamb den after a fox has been through it. You may think differently after picking up the lamb guts!
Very sad story for the cat owner - and the cat - I know how I would feel if it happened to one of mine.
hear hear, ^ so true BigEye.

And this is not condoning improper control of hounds.

Classic town and country developing.....
And I sympathise with the cat owners....hunts do often behave badly, sometimes imperiously, as they have done around here crashing across folks' private land, (not involving death or injury of cats), and that is something that they ought to need to learn to control - that is they want a semblance of respect, they need to earn it.

However, the fox is a heck of a pest to chickens and sheep farming though..
