Hamster dilemma

This morning I hit upon the brainwave of moving Tickle the hamster to a spare fish tank we have to give him more room, also less of an Indi temptation too!

However I've hit upon the snag of how to put his water bottle in for him. As a temporary solution I tried to tape it to the inside of the glass, but it just falls off. I can't drill into the glass, as a) im dangerous and b) it will eventually revert back to a fishtank.

Any ideas of what I can cobble together?

Incidentally, if you want a laugh, he also sank his teeth into my finger when I moved him, it bled like a good 'un and is still throbbing!

Wire coat hanger bent into a loop to hold the bottle and a hook to hook over the rim of the glass?

i superglue velcro to the side of the tank and a bottle, but the little critters will eat them! it's better or the bottle to be well in reach rather than stuck to the top of the tank/lid where they can't get to it. do you give him your spare cardboard to nibble on and throw around his house? i did with my hamsters/gerbils and put less sawdust in - they recycled the whole houses' supply of cardboard and they were really stimulated and played a lot x

Mr Boo shooed me away from my coathanger endeavour and is trying to do it himself.

Hiya lcg, im reluctant to superglue anything to the inside of the tank as it might, one day, revert back to being for fish.

He's got an empty kitchen roll holder in there, but he doesn't tend to bother with them. I also found a piece of driftwood, which was lurking in my bedroom (can't remember why now), so that's in there. I'm hoping it'll help gnaw the little buggers teeth down as my bloody finger is still really really painful. He's not in my good books, lol

you can still use superglue in the fish tank, it will disintegrate and fall off in water, preferably before you put fish in it, i still think the wire will be best.

oops! you can get superglue remover, so that's not an issue. but the bottle has to remain low enough for mr tickle to reach and hamsters are far lazier beasts that gerbils in attempting to get to stuff. you can always have a good larf at your oh attempting a 'man job' of it tho (a great source of amusement in my household! i'm the only girl and am far more handy/practical than my two put together) x

Where the top loop is just large enough to go round the bottle and the bottom loop is a little smaller so the spout fits through it but the bottle sits on top of it.

He's cracked it, doing Chucky's advice. Mr Boo put a couple of cable wires round the tube, fed the length of coathanger through them and made hooks to hang over the edge of the tank with the other ends of the wire.

The only drawback is that'll be noisy as it clangs against the side of the tank when touched, or when I imagine the carnivorous little sod decides to take a drink from it.

And yes, its low enough for him to reach.

cool....it was the clanking that did my head in. the little critters do it either when you are dropping off to sleep or ruddy incessantly! hope he quietens down x

I used to keep gerbils in a fish tank and for the life of me I can't remember how I got round the whole water bottle problem! If it comes to me I'll let you know in case the noise gets too much :)

A small bowl will do, needs changing a couple of times a day but that no stress.

Bit of bike inner tube around the top of the bottle (so hammie can't reach it) might keep it clear of the glass.

I was going to suggest you could try to make a harness out of string, run each side up the tank, over the top to the outside and fix with a good strip of duct tape. Looks like Mr B00 has come up trumps though.

a small bowl won't work shoota, he'll just immediately tip it up. Yeah Prudie, it's holding up, but im dreading the noise at 2am, lol

We've put a couple of plasters on the back (at the top) of his bottle to try and cushion the noise slightly Chucky, we'll see how it goes. Liking the inner tube idea, except we aint got any :-)
