tremble (shivering)

My cavalier sometimes starts shivering on a morning. Its become more frequent in the last few weeks.Any ideas what can cause this please?

Hi, is this a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel we are talking about? Does he/she have any other symptoms?

yes king charles. He quite often has either diarrhea or sickness and the odd day were he wont eat and his stomach makes really squelchy loud noises. He is extremley fussy with food he wont eat dog food (he is 5yrs). He has gone off chicken. The only food he will eat is pasta, rice ,porridge, lean beef mince noodles, low fat sausages and scrambled egg. I have a feeling I am going to get slated.

he won't eat dog food? I think he would if there was nothing else on offer. Just my opinion.

I'm more bothered by the shivering bit (rightly or wrongly). Does he scratch around his neck a lot?

He does scratch around his ears and neck quite a lot ladybirder! Is there a possible reason maybe!!

I was so hoping you would say no and I do hope I am wrong. I think you should go to the vet tomorrow because I have recently seen a programme about Syringomyelia. I hesitate to post this and please forgive me if I'm wrong but if it was me I'd rather me alerted.

Sorry wolfgang. We have taken him the vet because of his stomach problems. She said that he has a sensitive stomach. She advised chicken, egg, pasta and rice.

I had a feeling you might say that. I was at the vet last year (crying) convinced that he had that condition because he was scratching his ears all the time. The vet put my mind at rest. He just has very itchy skin. But I do wonder!! He does yelp sometimes when you pick him up. Sometimes he slumps to the floor. The other thing I have noticed is that sometimes his right eye seems to turn slightly.

I'm glad you've heard of it so at least it hasn't come as too much of a shock. I just hope your vet is right. Would you say he has got worse over the last year? I would go again if it was me and I would need seriously reassuring. I will have my fingers crossed for you and your dog.

You can always ask for a second opinion, if your dog isn't getting any better. I would.

Yes I think yous are right. Just don't know what to say to the OH. He will just dismiss it and say he's fine. My caviler and my OH idolize each other to the point that if there was a fire he would rescue the dog first!!. We,ve never been abroad in five years because my OH wont leave Oscar with anyone!!

I have done some further reading on this ilovemark and according to the attached which I accessed from the original link I sent you, it sounds as if your dog has at least three or more of the symptoms described - the scratching, collapsing, yelping when touched, and the eye problem. Oh dear please tell me you are going to your vet as a matter of urgency tomorrow. X

Oh sorry just seen your 20.14 post. If your other half loves his dog surely he will want to do what's best for him. He can't just ignore this. And I'm sure you won't let him. I'll shut up now.
