They would eat p!ssed up labourers and generally feed after 10.30p.m. So sunlight is not necessary for survival.

Shyte - yummy - crocodiles are very tasty, more so than alligators, and yes I have tried both....as well as several other reptiles - and bizarre birds.

I have some Crocs, I'm pretty sure they could survive in a sewer I'm not so sure about my python skin loafers though.....

Ostrich, Swan (not here), Deep-Fried Ducks Embryos, Vulture, Sparrows, (not much different to the Duck Embryos), Emu, Japanese Cormorant, and, I am serious the Redfooted Booby - oh and a Pelican (no it wasn't tinned).

From your description i would guess you saw a cayman, these are popular as pets, but some unscrupulous vendors make false claims about their size, telling prospective buyers that they are dwarf caymans and when they grow too large people decide to dispose of them. Many have been discarded into sewer networks where they actually thrive on the partially digested food that we defecate into the system. As to sunlight they will over a long period develop an albino appearance and eventually they will be impossible to inflate as the valve deteriorates.
