Sadly found a fox cubs tail
4 Answers
Found a detached tail in our garden this morning... Complete with little white tip on the end... Wonder what happened to the poor thing and whether it survived the attack?
Good reason why I keep my cats indoors every night!!!

If the whole tail is off it doesn't really sound too good does it. Maybe another adult fox or dog. I can't imagine that a cat would manage to inflict this damage.
For a wild animal to lose a tail is quite serious (apart from possibly bleeding to death) as a fox will use its tale for communicating with other foxes.
If you find out what happened post again - it is always nice to know what happens.

Thanks Wolfie
I saw mum and cubs in the field at end of garden this morning and went down to see if any cubs were minus a tail. They weren't.
I suspect another fox has killed and eaten the baby that lost its tail.
I have had trouble with adult foxes chasing our young cats... Since all the vixens have their babies to feed. So we keep the cats in at night.
I suspect the poor baby cub was dinner for another litter!!! Just hope it didn't suffer more than necessary!
It was horrible seeing the poor fluffy detached tail on the lawn!
