Dog Crate

I'm intrigued to see posts where it's suggested to keep your dog in it's crate sometimes. Is that like those carrier things on planes? Maybe with our new talent for photo posting, can someone show me one? Thank you very much.

Hi graemer, of course it's not acceptable to keep your dog in a crate all day long unless there's a good reason for them to be resting (injury for example), but crates can be good for lots of reasons and if the dog is introduced to the crate in the correct way, he will see it as a place of refuge rather than a 'cage'.
For instance, if you have a pup that chews your furniture, if he is in his crate when you go to bed or you have to go to the shops, he can't do that and it's therefore easier to coax him out of the habit.
If you have young children, they can often constantly pester the family dog and a crate could be the dog's 'peace & quiet' corner where he can be left alone to sleep in peace.
If you have a dog that is nervous or aggressive with certain people, a crate is a must because the dog can be shut in there when they are around and he will feel totally safe.
My dog goes bananas if he sees another dog (unless it's a girl-dog) and a crate is a must in the car because otherwise he will jump all over the place barking his head off.
Hope this helps.
